Dose and Schedule
Taking Enzalutamide as instructed is important to ensure your treatment is as effective as possible. Please keep the following key points in mind:
- Usual Dose:
- 160 milligrams (4 tablets) to be taken by mouth once daily at a scheduled time for 4 weeks.
- Administration Instructions:
- Enzalutamide can be taken with or without food but should be taken at the same time each day.
- Swallow the tablets whole; do not crush, cut, or dissolve them. If you are unable to swallow the tablets, contact your doctor for alternative options.
- Missed Dose:
- Do not take an extra dose or two doses at once. Simply take your next dose at the regularly scheduled time.
- Record any missed doses and inform your doctor during your next appointment.
Drug and Food Interactions
- Drug Interactions:
Inform your doctor about all prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products you are using. - Food Interactions:
Avoid consuming grapefruit, grapefruit juice, Seville oranges (commonly found in marmalades), and star fruit while on Enzalutamide, as these can interact with the medication. - New Medications and Vaccines:
Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking new medications, supplements, or receiving any vaccines.
Storage and Handling
- Storage Instructions:
- Store Enzalutamide at room temperature (below 25°C) in a dry place away from light.
- Keep the medication out of reach of children and pets.
- Keep the tablets in their original packaging until ready to use.
- Handling Precautions:
- Whenever possible, administer Enzalutamide to yourself.
- If a family member, friend, or caregiver handles the tablets, they should wear gloves.
- Unused Medication:
- Do not dispose of unused Enzalutamide in the trash, sink, or toilet. Return unused medication to the practice for safe disposal.
- Travelling:
- Place the packaging in a sealed plastic bag when travelling. Consult your pharmacist for additional travel precautions.

Handling Body Fluids and Waste
Enzalutamide remains in your body for several days after taking it. To protect yourself, loved ones, and the environment, follow these instructions throughout your treatment:
- Pregnant women should avoid contact with anything that may be soiled with body fluids.
- You may use your usual toilet, but always close the lid and flush twice.
- Clean any soiled toilet surfaces before others use them.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after using the toilet.
- If you need a bedpan, ensure caregivers wear gloves during clean-up and wash the bedpan daily with soap and water.
- If you experience bladder or bowel control issues, use disposable pads or sheets to absorb waste.
- Wash any exposed skin with soap and water immediately.
- Linens or clothing soiled with body fluids should be washed separately from other laundry.
- Caregivers should wash their hands after handling soiled items.
Pregnancy, Sexual Activity, and Contraception
- Men should avoid getting a partner pregnant while taking Enzalutamide.
- Effective contraception should be used by men and women of childbearing potential during therapy and for at least 3 months after the last dose.
- Inform your doctor immediately if your partner becomes pregnant.
