This festive reindeer is more than just a holiday decoration – it carries a story of innovation, care for the planet, and the power of community.

Yours is one of the very first products off the production line created by Plastic Pioneers, a young and inspiring company dedicated to transforming plastic waste into meaningful, useful products.

Your reindeer is made from approximately 12 milk bottle tops, collected by the incredible students at Wynberg Girls High School. Over the past few months, these students have rallied together to collect thousands of milk bottles and other recyclable packaging, saving waste from landfills and, even worse, the ocean.

In the process of collecting plastic, these students are learning first-hand about sustainability and becoming part of the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders.

Plastic can be recycled countless times, and Plastic Pioneers proves just how valuable this resource can be. For instance, another recent project turned plastic collected during a Hout Bay beach clean-up into carabiners.

The impact doesn’t stop there. Plastic Pioneers is creating opportunities for unemployed youth by paying them for collecting plastic waste from streets and public spaces. Much like how steel and other recyclables are collected, this initiative is helping young people see plastic as a valuable resource rather than something to be discarded. It’s about building a lasting mindset shift – turning trash into treasure.

Looking ahead, Plastic Pioneers has big dreams. Next year, they plan to expand their school programs to hundreds of schools, as well as grow their township recycling projects. They also aim to explore larger applications for recycled plastic, like building materials, displays, and signage.

By choosing recycled products like this reindeer, you’re supporting a brighter, cleaner future for all of us.
